After the car show - Report from our president, Gerald Mitchell:
ALGONQUIN ANTIQUE AUTO CLUB REPORT, JUNE 24, 2010
Our car club show is now history after taking place on June 13, 2010. Attendance was down from last year’s great show because of the uncertain weather. Many more vendors were expected, but didn’t want to take the chance with the weather. However, many cars and spectators did attend and we appreciate their endurance. Veteran car showers know they are always taking a chance on the weather. Many trophies were awarded and we appreciate all the donors of both trophies and door prizes. Inadvertently left out for donors for door prizes were those contributed by President Mitchell and wife, Eileen who donated many antique auto memorabilia. Don’t forget the club picnic on August 14, 2010 at Copes Corners with grills being fired up at 12:00 P.M. If you have a propane grill that you could bring along, please do so as the charcoal is slow in starting. Meat and drinks are provided by the club and members are asked to ride in their antique vehicles, if possible, and bring a dish to pass.
The next official meeting will not be until the first Sunday in October when, once again, one of the members is looking for the possibility of holding the meeting in the Norwich Classic Car Museum. So look for announcements of this and the meeting notices in the mail. We welcome any new members at any of our meetings which are always held the first Sunday of each month usually at 2 p.m. in the Bainbridge Historical Museum.

June 13 Our 30th. Annual Car Show:
The show details will be available soon. It was a good show, well received with generally fair weather except for a shower before 9:00 in the morning and another brief light shower later in the forenoon. There was just enough wetness risk to keep the attendance much lower than last year. We ordered perfect weather for next years show.
June 6 Monthly Meeting News:

All antique car people should be at the Sidney High School by 12:00 p.m. so they can be in formation. The parade starts at 1:00 p.m. Again, we look forward to a good weather day. There is nothing more rewarding than to see the lines of people along the route waving to us as we pass. Immediately following the parade finish all entrants should tour down to the Canoe Regatta grounds to help set up for the big event the next day, the car show.
May 2 Monthly Meeting News is forthcoming soon.
As a precurser to the formal report, the meeting was held as scheduled, at the alternate location of the Bainbridge Town Hall, 15 N. Main St., Bainbridge. No food was served because of the location.
Our president, Gerald Mitchell drove his very attractive 1973 VW Super Beetle Convertible to the meeting and we finally have a picture of it for all to see. Click on: Gerald's VW Convertible
April 11 Monthly Meeting News as reported in the Tri-Town News by Gerald Mitchell, Pres.:
ALGONQUIN ANTIQUE AUTO CLUB APRIL NEWS
April 10the found several dedicated members of the club standing out in front of the Bainbridge Fire Station in the frigid, windy elements, selling Parson’s bar-b-q chicken, salads & beans. A few hearty souls remained there for several hours. Although the results were not as profitable as we had hoped, there was a small gain and we all had plenty of chicken to take home and consume.
The next day was our regular club meeting at the Bainbridge Museum for those that had not felt ill effects from the day before. We welcomed 2 new members and after a versatile buffet, the regular meeting was held. 4-color posters had been printed and made available for each member to take and post in their particular area for our car show and trophies for the car show on June 13th have been ordered. The annual SFCU parade in Sidney will be held the day before the car show and members will meet at the Sidney H.S. at 12:00 PM in their antique vehicles to participate. Right after that, they will head to General Clinton Park to set up for the next day’s car show. There was a sign-up for the various committees for the show. It has been a long time since members have had jackets or caps with our logo that will identify our club. Several of the members will look into sources for this and bring the suggestions to the next meeting.
The museum will be using their building on May 2nd for their annual antique auction, so our car club will be meeting at 2:00 PM at THE BAINBRIDGE TOWN HALL. There will be NO FOOD at this meeting, but it is very important that all members be in attendance as this is the last meeting for finalizing any plans for the annual car show. So all please plan on attending. If you are an interested person in our activities, please come and help us plan for this event. Last year was the largest show in the 50 year history of the club and we want to equal or surpass that!
CHICKEN BAR-B-Q, April 10:
The club had a chicken barbeque Saturday, April 10 at the Bainbridge Firehouse lot, with chicken supplied by Parson's Catering. It was a cold and breezy morning when we set up at 9:00 and the temperature climbed to the low 50s by afternoon. We started off selling so slowly that at noon we were worried that we would only sell 1/2 of the minimum quota to break even. Things picked up around 11 am and thankfully continued until about 2 PM when the second slump accurred. About eight club members helped out and lots of us got pretty chilled and didn't fully recover until we went home to warm up. In the end we sold our minimum to break even and even made a few dollars. Several of us took chicken halves home to finish them up. I wouldn't call this barbeque a huge success, but neither was it a failure. We'll do a few things better next time and have a more profitable barbeque. Next time we'll have a sign that boldly says;
Chicken Barbeque.
Monthly Meeting Minutes
March:
ALGONQUIN ANTIQUE AUTO CLUB as published in the Tri Town News, with some editing by your web-master
The March meeting of the Algonquin Antique Auto Club was held on March 7, 2010 at 2:00 P.M. in The Bainbridge Museum.
Upcoming events of the chicken bar b-q and this year’s car show were discussed. Because of prior scheduling of other events at the fire house, the chicken bar-b-q had to be scheduled for April 10, which was earlier than originally desired. There will be salads and baked beans, if desired to go along with the chicken. So, please come down to the Bainbridge Fire Station on April 10 and partake of this delicious chicken, once again prepared by Parsons. Be sure to come early so that you are not disappointed that they might be sold out.
For the car show which will be held on Sunday, June 13 at General Clinton Park, extra help may be needed in the food tent. Any non-members are always welcome to offer their assistance in set up the Saturday afternoon before the show. In return, the auto club offers them free attendance to our Christmas dinner in December. If interested in helping in any way be it cooking, setup, parking etc. please call President Mitchell at 607-267-6004. The PA system and its use were discussed, help for Mr. Whitacre with clean-up should be available and a short business meeting following the show should be held. Dash plaques need to be ordered and it was suggested that this year’s plaque should have a picture of Charlie Davis’ Model A Ford. The purchase of trophies is being taken care of.
Our webmaster, Charles Davis, stated that he had received a Certificate of Merit for the site from National. It was felt that our club should send an article to be published in the Region section of the publication from National.
It was proposed that our next meeting be held in the Norwich Classic Car Museum. This was not possible as this Museum Meeting Room is booked for April and not available in May. We will consider having our June meeting there.
Due to the Easter holiday, the April meeting of the Algonquin Antique Auto Club will be held April 11, 2020 at 2:00 PM in the Bainbridge Museum. Please come and join us then for our meeting/social time. Just bring a little something for the lunch table. Come and make suggestions and help plan our upcoming events.
February:
The February 7th meeting went much better than January's.
Here are the secretary's (slightly edited) February Minutes as reported in the Tri Town News:
BAINBRIDGE, - The Algonquin Antique Auto Club held their first real meeting of the new year on Sunday, February 7. The January meeting wasn't officially held because of a snow storm that had just moved into the area. Also, notices were not sent out.
Plans were formulated for this year's car show and for a chicken barbecue. The 30th annual car show is set for Sunday, June 13th. Vehicles must be in place by 12 noon to be judged.
Flyers will be sent out soon, and work has begun to promote through 4 color posters and place mats for restaurants, to be distributed, at least, throughout Sidney, Bainbridge and Unadilla. We are excited about this years car show as last years was the biggest in the club's history. We want this year's to be even bigger and better
Registration will be made faster and easier with a new 'window card' procedure. Vendors are encouraged to set up, with no fee for your space. We wish to attract more vendors, especially ones with car parts.
It was decided to hold a chicken barbeque, tentatively on April 17th, depending on availability of the Bainbridge firehouse yard, and Parson's catering for the chicken.
This meeting was to be officers election, and all present officers were maintained for another year-Gerald Mitchell, President; Ruth Steffen, Vice President; Eileen Mitchell, Secretary; and Alan Schildkraut, Treasurer.
The next meeting will be March 7, 2:00 PM at the Bainbridge Museum. The April meeting will hopefully be held in Norwich at the Northeast Classic car Museum.
Members and guests come join us at our March and April meetings and help enjoy planning the upcoming events. All that's suggested is that you bring yourselves and a contribution for the buffet table, then enjoy our informal social/meeting together.
January:
Only four members were present for the January monthly meeting, primarily because of bad weather, and many thinking the meeting was cancelled.
